Taking Back the Land - Live There
Living in God's Promised Land: How to Experience Kingdom Blessings Today
God has promised us a land of blessing, but many Christians struggle with the idea that we can experience these promises today rather than just in heaven. We've been exploring how to take possession of what God has given us, and now it's time to learn how to truly live in that place.
What Promises Has God Made to His People?
God made numerous promises to Abraham and his descendants:
The land of Canaan as an everlasting possession
Descendants as numerous as stars in the sky
A special relationship as His chosen people
Blessings and protection
Messianic lineage
Restoration and blessing
As believers, we are part of that inheritance. The question is: do we only receive these promises when we get to heaven, or can we experience them now?
Are God's Promises Only for Heaven or Also for Today?
Jesus made it clear in John 14 that while He was preparing a place for us in heaven, He was also empowering us to do His works on earth now. He promised that the Father and He would make their home with us in this life.
The purpose of the Church is to continue the work of Jesus now, not later. We are to spread the kingdom message and live in the kingdom reality today. Jesus said, "The kingdom is now."
How Do We Live in God's Promised Land Today?
To truly live in the place God has given us, we must follow three key principles:
1. Keep His Commandments
The very first requirement for living in God's blessing is obedience. Throughout Exodus, God emphasized keeping His commandments. When we choose to live outside His rules, we're essentially saying we don't want His blessings or protection.
Many people come to church while living in sin—lying, cheating, stealing—and wonder why God isn't taking care of them. By disobeying, we're rejecting His blessings.
When we keep His commandments, we receive:
Unconditional love
Redemption and forgiveness
Eternal life
The Holy Spirit
Spiritual gifts
Peace and strength
Hope through Jesus Christ
2. Submit to His Will
Submission is a response to God's love and grace. It involves aligning our will with God's, even when it contradicts our own plans and desires.
In Luke 4:16-21, Jesus read from Isaiah about His mission:
To proclaim good news to the poor (you don't have to remain in poverty)
To proclaim liberty to captives (freedom from sin)
Recovery of sight to the blind
Liberty for the oppressed
The year of the Lord's favor
When we submit to God's will:
We experience freedom from anxiety (Matthew 6:25-34)
We find peace in His decisions
We're no longer at war with God
We discover the blessing in following His path
Submission isn't a one-time event but a continual daily process. Every morning we must choose to be Christians and follow God's will for that day.
3. Enjoy What God Has Given
Many Christians walk around "busted and disgusted," focusing on their problems rather than God's blessings. We need to learn to enjoy what God has for us right now.
In John 10:10, Jesus said: "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
The Message translation puts it this way: "I came so that you can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of."
Jesus wants us to experience:
Real life now, not just eternal life later
The fullness of God today
Healing and provision in this life
The power of the Holy Spirit now
The gifts of the Spirit now
If we can't experience the fullness of the kingdom today, what are we living for? God wants us to live life to the fullest as Adam and Eve would have in the garden—walking with Him, talking with Him, and enjoying His presence.
Life Application
This week, challenge yourself to truly live in God's promised land by:
Examining your life for areas of disobedience. Are there things you know you shouldn't be doing? Repent and ask God to help you turn away from them.
Submitting your plans to God daily. Start each morning by asking, "Lord, what does your day look like for me?" rather than telling God what you plan to do.
Choosing joy regardless of circumstances. Instead of focusing on problems, intentionally "think on these things" that are good, praising God for specific blessings each day.
Ask yourself:
Am I experiencing God's peace, protection, and provision today?
What areas of my life am I still trying to control rather than submitting to God?
How can I be a better witness to others of God's goodness, mercy, and grace?
What blessing can I share with someone else this week?
Remember, God wants you to live to the fullness today, not just tomorrow. Enjoy what He is doing in your life and share it with others.
